The stress of everyday life can throw us out of balance. We sometimes don’t take care of ourselves as well as we should. This state of unbalance may be expressed physically, energetically, or mentally. During this 6-night, 7-day retreat, you will have the opportunity to connect to yourself on a deeper level and bring yourself back to balance through yin and yang yogic practices.

We will enjoy daily morning practices of Vinyasa (yang) yoga to become acquainted with and absolutely present with the physical body, building internal heat, flowing in a moving meditation with consciousness and breath. We will then practice Yin yoga every evening to balance out the dynamic yang practice and bring peace to our bodies, getting intimate with the sensations that arise whilst boosting our Chi (energy) and keeping our joints juicy and healthy. We will chant mantras together to experience our vibrational selves and practice daily meditation to help cleanse our minds and get present and closer to our very essence. On some evenings, we will practice noble silence. We cannot go deeply within ourselves if we are constantly chatting and engaging with others. It will help you come back to your centre! Coupled with healthy, delicious vegetarian food, this is a week not to be missed.

Getting there:

The closest airport is Faro. The flight takes approx 2h30 from Orly Airport. Monte Velho is located in a village called Carrapateira which is 1h15 away from the airport. Airport transfers to and from the retreat center are included in the price, at a designated time (to be communicated soon).

Example Itinerary (actual timings may slightly differ and will be confirmed on arrival):

Sunday 24 Feb: Afternoon arrival. Welcome, evening yin yoga practice and dinner.

Monday 25 + Tuesday 26 Feb:

8am-10h30am: Morning meditation and vinyasa/pranayama/chanting practice
11am: Brunch
11.30am – 4.45pm: Free time
5pm – 7pm: Yin yoga practice
7.30pm: Dinner
9pm – 9.30pm: Candlelight evening meditation followed by noble silence until the morning practice begins the next day
Wednesday 27th Feb:

8am – 10am: Morning meditation and vinyasa practice
Free day! You have the option to stay onsite and relax, enjoy the spa or venture out and do anything you please. An optional excursion will be arranged for those who wish to participate (extra costs apply).
9pm – 9.30pm: Candlelight evening meditation for those who are onsite at this time.
Thursday 28th Feb and Friday 1 March

8am-10h30am: Morning meditation and vinyasa/pranayama/chanting practice
11am: Brunch
11.30am – 4.45pm: Free time
5pm – 7pm: Yin yoga practice
7.30pm: Dinner
9pm – 9.30pm: Candlelight evening meditation, noble silence on Thursday night, closing circle on Friday night
Saturday 2 March

Morning practice for those able to stay
Light breakfast
Depart for the airport
What’s included:

7 days/6 nights accommodation
Accommodation triple, twin/double, or private room
Airport transfers to and from Faro airport at a designated time
Vegetarian brunch and dinner each day onsite (special dietary requirements can be accommodated on request). Meals are not included when offsite. Offsite excursions are optional (additional costs apply).
Daily yoga and meditation practices with Gemma
Use of the centre’s yoga mats,blocks, straps, and blankets
A really great time!
What’s not included:

Use of the Spa
Extra activities such as massages, surfing, horseback riding, transport, and meals if going offsite during free time, etc.
What to bring:

Your yoga mat (you may prefer your own rather than the centre’s mats)
Yoga clothes for daily vinyasa practice plus extra yoga or lounge clothes for yin yoga, meditation, and relaxation time
A sweat/beach towel (bathroom towel is provided)
Swimwear (optional and weather dependant…remember it’s winter!)
Warm clothes for layering, optional scarf/wrap/shawl for savasana/yin and between practices because it can get chilly in the morning and evening
A small torch/headlamp for walking to/from the yoga shala in the evening
Rain protection – a water-resistant jacket or umbrella for walking to/from the yoga shala
A water bottle/flask with a lid for water or tea (optional) (mugs and cups without lids will not be permitted in the yoga shala)
Any special snacks/teas you want to have with you (optional)
Hiking shoes (optional)
A notepad and pen for journaling and note taking (optional but recommended)
A hairdryer if desired, there are no hairdryers in the rooms
